Chinese firm Haiwen & partners has hired away a Latham & Watkins lawyer to launch a new Shenzhen office.

Lu Guiping joins Haiwen as a partner. He was most recently Hong Kong-based counsel with Latham where he advised capital markets deals, mergers and acquisitions as well as venture capital financing. Last year, he represented Chinese car winder manufacturer Fuyao Glass Industry Group on a $953 million listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He also represented nine underwriters including Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Barclays and J.P. Morgan on a $2 billion bond offer by China’s Tencent Holdings Ltd.
