In one of the largest recent settlements in such cases, AT&T Mobility LLC has agreed to pay $45 million to end a proposed class action alleging it violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by making thousands of automated cellphone calls without permission.

In a proposed settlement deal filed Sept. 30 in U.S. District Court for the District of Montana, AT&T Mobility and lead plaintiff Joel Hageman asked the court to approve the agreement, which would set up a settlement fund from which about 16,000 potential class members could receive $500 each, or more.
