The DeKalb County Superior Court has named a child advocate attorney to the county Juvenile Court bench.

Chief Superior Court Judge Gregory Adams announced today that the judges voted on April 1 to name Fatima El-Amin to the Juvenile Court.

“Fatima El-Amin brings her past legal experience of helping others to the Juvenile Court,” Adams said in a written statement. “I am proud of her appointment and truly believe that the citizens of DeKalb will be proud of the work that this new judge will be doing in the coming years.”

El-Amin will fill the vacancy left by the death of Judge Elliott Shoenthal in December. She has worked as a supervising child advocate attorney at the county’s Child Advocacy Center since 2005.

El-Amin earned her law degree from Emory University and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2000.
