Sidley Austin has added a partner in Beijing.

Mergers and acquisitions specialist Lan Tao was previously a partner in the Beijing office of White & Case.

Tao advises both Chinese companies on outbound deals and multinational corporations on their investments into China. He regularly acts for the country’s state-owned enterprises—such as China National Petroleum Corp., China National Offshore Oil Corp., China Petroleum & Chemical Corp.—on energy and resources-related transactions.

Prior to joining White & Case in 2012, Tao was a Beijing partner at the now-defunct Dewey & LeBoeuf for just under a year. He served two stints at the firm, first joining the former LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae as an associate in 2007 and becoming a partner later that year. In 2009, he left to join King & Wood as a partner but returned to Dewey two years later.

Sidley Austin’s Beijing office now has about 13 lawyers, including four partners, according to its website. The firm employs 1,700 lawyers in 19 offices worldwide.
