Governor Nathan Deal’s most recent judicial appointment has promised to embrace accountability courts—alternative sentencing programs the governor likes—as well as technology.

"I would work to implement our circuit’s first DUI court," Fayette County Magistrate Jason Thompson wrote in his application to Deal’s Judicial Nominating Commission, which evaluated candidates for an opening on the Fayette State Court. "This specialized court would not focus on punishment, but strive to find a way to help the defendants solve their own problem with alcoholism and poor driving decisions."
