The dean of the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, Nora V. Demleitner, is leaving the Long Island, N.Y., school to head the Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Va. Demleitner, who has been dean of the Hempstead-based law school since 2008 and a member of its faculty since 2001, will become the first woman to serve as dean at Washington and Lee Law when she assumes her new position on July 1. Her replacement has not yet been named, according to a Hofstra Law spokeswoman, who said Demleitner will stay on through June.

Beginning next year, Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowitz will form a search committee that will look nationwide for a successor. Also in the new year, Rabinowitz will tap an interim dean who will begin serving in July. No decisions have yet been made as to the interim dean or members of the search committee.
