Frederic Bourke Jr.’s attack on his conviction for a conspiracy to bribe officials to gain control of Azerbaijan’s state-run oil company was rejected by a federal appeals court yesterday.
Although the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit said that the 65-year-old entrepreneur had “vigorously” challenged his conviction on “several fronts,” it concluded that he did not deserve a new trial for participating in a scam run by codefendant Viktor Kozeny to get the inside track in a bid to acquire the state-owned oil company, Socar, in 1998.
