Stephenson Harwood is advising Indonesia’s largest private airline on a $21.7 billion airplane order from The Boeing Co. The mammoth order, placed by PT Lion Mentari Airlines (which operates as regional low-cost carrier Lion Air), is Boeing’s largest-ever sale of commercial aircraft. The deal also includes the option for Lion Air to buy further airplanes worth another $14 billion. Stephenson Harwood’s Singapore-based aviation head, Paul Ng, is acting for Lion Air. Slaughter and May and KhattarWong are advising Indonesian coal producer PT Borneo Lumbung Energi & Metal Tbk. on a $1 billion acquisition of a stake in another resources company. The transaction will give Borneo Lumbung a 24-percent interest in U.K.-listed Bumi PLC, one of Indonesia’s largest mining companies. Standard Chartered Bank is financing the deal with a loan for the entire purchase value. London-based Slaughter and May has fielded partners Nilufer von Bismarck and Paul Dickson. KhattarWong partners Perry Yuen, Peal Lim and Ng Yeow Khoon are providing Singapore counsel. O’Melveny & Myers‘ Jakarta-based affiliate Tumbuan & Partners is advising PT Borneo on Indonesian law.
