A former Blackwater contractor was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison Monday and another was given 37 months for the 2009 shooting death of an unarmed Afghan civilian in Kabul on one of the most dangerous roads in the world. It took two trials to secure the men's involuntary manslaughter conviction after the first trial ended in a hung jury.

A former Blackwater contractor was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on Monday for the May 2009 shooting death of an unarmed Afghan civilian in Kabul, although his lawyers said they intend to appeal his conviction.
Justin H. Cannon of Corpus Christi, Texas, will remain free on bond with his family in Louisiana while his attorneys prepare his appeal. He was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in March.
