Big-ticket litigation and corporate work kicked back into higher gear last year, boosting profit and revenue figures at most of the top 25 firms with a significant California presence.

Some of the best results came from firms with roots in Southern California and a heavy tilt to litigation. Out of 13 Southern California-founded firms on the list, nine showed gross revenue increases. Profits varied widely, with eye-popping gains at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and the much-smaller Buchalter Nemer and more modest results at firms with a big stake in real estate, like Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis.
