Davis Polk has announced plans to establish a Brazil office this year. Unlike most of the roughly 20 firms that have opened Brazil offices in recent years, Davis Polk is not looking to break into the market, but to grow what is already a strong practice, says corporate partner Manuel Garciadiaz.

Three months after Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton announced its own intentions to open in Sao Paulo, Davis Polk & Wardwell on Friday announced plans to establish a Brazil office this year.
The office, its 10th internationally, could open its doors as early as midyear, though the date is subject to approval by Brazilian authorities.
