The American Bar Association is using President Obama’s visit to India to push for lawyer reciprocity with that country.

ABA President Steve Zack sent a letter last week to the White House urging Obama to press the Indian government to drop its ban on foreign lawyers. Indian regulations prohibit non-Indian lawyers from maintaining offices or practicing law in the country. Additionally, a pending lawsuit brought by an Indian attorney seeks to limit the ability of non-Indian attorneys to travel to the country and advise clients regarding the law in their home countries.
