A thorny discovery-rule question landed before the state Supreme Court on Tuesday, and the outcome will determine whether a woman’s product-liability suit against Johnson & Johnson — filed five years after its sutures caused her infection — is time-barred.

On Aug. 10, 2001, Misti Blessing had a caesarean section in which Panacryl sutures were used. The sutures are manufactured by J&J and are supposed to dissolve within the body within 1 ½ years to 2 ½ years. The sutures did not dissolve and six months later Blessing noticed blood seeping from the incision.
