Debevoise & Plimpton and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer are taking the lead roles in the highly anticipated Hong Kong initial public offering of American International Assurance, the Asian division of bailed-out insurance giant American International Group, according to sources familiar with the matter and our prior reporting.

Edward Drew Dutton, who recently relocated to Hong Kong from Paris, is leading the Debevoise team, which also includes partners Thomas Britt in Hong Kong and Peter Loughran and John Vasily in New York. Debevoise is advising AIA on U.S. law and international private placement issues.
