Q:

I am a former public defender. I left my government post for a small, private civil practice firm. Overall, I have more than seven years of excellent experience. But, I have been unemployed for the past year, since the firm was no longer able to retain me due to the economy. I am now interviewing for a position. How do I best explain the time spent not working?
