As part of its continued push into insurance coverage litigation, Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman is preparing to add a partner from Howrey. Robert H. Shulman, a partner who was in Howrey’s Washington, D.C., office, has accepted an offer to join Kasowitz Benson starting next week, working primarily out of its New York office.

Shulman had been the co-chair of Howrey’s insurance coverage practice for most of the last decade. His clients include ConocoPhillips Co., Hess Corp., Electrolux Corp., and MBIA Inc., which name partner Marc Kasowitz also represents. Shulman was lead counsel to International Paper Company in litigation against its insurance carriers that resulted in a jury verdict of $93.2 million in 2001 in his client’s favor and another for $383.3 million in 2003. The litigation ended in 2005.
