Van Zandt has held the top position at Northwestern's law school since 1995, earning a reputation as one of the most progressive and outspoken deans in legal education. Returning to New York was a big part of the job's draw, said Van Zandt, who was an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell before launching his teaching career in 1985.
