The writing is on the wall: Legal departments need to be at the center of companies’ long-term business strategies. But CEOs and general counsel seem to be at odds over exactly how to get it done.

A recent survey by British firm Nabarro, led by partners Peter Williamson and Jonathan Warne, tackled how general counsel can demonstrate their value and make their legal departments integral to the business side of the company. The study showed that 86 percent of in-house lawyers in the U.K. and 85 percent of CEOs think the move would be “relatively simple” to accomplish.
