Lawyers at some of New York’s largest law firms are spending tens of thousands of dollars to back favored candidates in the race to succeed Andrew Cuomo as New York’s attorney general.

Lawyers at firms including Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; and Blank Rome have held fundraisers for candidates in recent months, and some law firms have directly contributed to a candidate. They are eyeballing the election carefully, with the understanding that the victor will take over an office that has played a central role in pursuing civil and criminal cases against corporate clients.
