It’s summer and, as night follows the gloaming, the law clerks must soon arrive.

Law clerks (“summer associates” to those baby boomer HR managers who think youth’s ego is peach-like in its susceptibility to bruising) actually did not arrive at some traditional locales after the onset of the Troubles. The crop didn’t fail. There were as many seekers as always. There just were many fewer takers.
