Jailed Houston businessman R. Allen Stanford and defense attorney Michael Essmyer are stuck with each other. On Tuesday, Senior U.S. District Judge David Hittner signed an order denying Essmyer's motion to withdraw as counsel for Stanford, who faces trial on criminal charges in January. Essmyer and his firm had asked to withdraw from Stanford's criminal case due to "irreconcilable differences" with defense attorney Robert S. Bennett over litigation strategy and "other matters."
