Mental health clinic operator Psychiatric Solutions announced Monday it would be acquired by Universal Health Services for about $2 billion in cash, plus the assumption of $1.1 billion in debt. UHS, one of the largest for-profit hospital operators in the U.S. with facilities in 30 states, beat out private equity firm Bain Capital for the acquisition, which is the largest deal in the health care services industry since the $4.7 billion merger between Express Scripts and Wellpoint in April 2009, according to Bloomberg.
