In an unusual dispute that drew in some big firm lawyers, some California surfers have settled a beef over the Santa Cruz Surfing Club trademark. The 74-year-old club had sued the grandson of one of the founding members for allegedly hoodwinking an elderly member out of the rights to the club's name and logo. A key part of the case was showing that the club had used the logo commercially before. In 2004, Paris Hilton appeared on the cover of Elle magazine wearing a Santa Cruz Surfing Club T-shirt.
