Greenberg Traurig has lured three corporate and securities shareholders to its Boston office, including Barbara Jones, the former firmwide co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery‘s capital markets group. Two former Goodwin Procter partners, Stephen Adams and Robert Puopolo, also jumped to the firm. Jones said that Greenberg Traurig’s 31-office footprint is important for the extensive cross-border practice she’s maintained since she returned from 13 years practicing in London in 2003. “That’s been a critical part of my practice and continues to be,” Jones said. “I’m still doing a fair bit of work with Europe and increasingly with Asian and Chinese companies.” Greenberg Traurig’s shift to advising corporate dealmakers using alternative financing vehicles as traditional financing stalled was also a drawing point, Jones said. “To the extent deals are [getting] done [now], Greenberg has managed to stay with the markets as they’ve moved,” Jones said. The 1,750-lawyer firm opened its Boston outpost in 1999. Eighteen of the office’s more than 75 lawyers are corporate and securities attorneys. The three new attorneys support the office’s increasing focus on technology clients — including those in the life sciences, biotechnology, alternative energy and telecommunication — as well as investment banks and investors, said Gary Greenberg, co-managing shareholder of the firm’s Boston Office. “These three talented and experienced shareholders enhance the capabilities of our domestic and international corporate group in Boston,” Greenberg said.
