William Weld, the former governor of Massachusetts and a one-time New York gubernatorial hopeful, is in the process of paying a legal bill of more than $1 million to Howrey following a fee dispute that went to arbitration last year. Howrey had represented Weld in litigation arising from an accreditation and student-loan scandal at Decker College in Louisville, Ky. Weld served as a Decker board member and as chief executive officer for the school for 10 months before it filed for bankruptcy in 2005.
