Who has not heard the phrase jack-of-all-trades, master of none? Perhaps Hewlett-Packard Development Corp., because its new HP Officejet 8500 All-In-One Printer is a jack-of-all-trades in generating computer output — print, scan, copy and fax — but it seems to have mastered them all.

The Officejet 8500 is a multifunctional, color inkjet printer that can also scan and fax black-and-white and color documents and images, as well as convert TIF and PDF image files to searchable PDF documents. I was surprised by the quality and speed of the Officejet’s output, but I was more impressed with how HP injected the printer’s output into my everyday work flows.
