Former Sen. Tom Daschle is leaving Alston & Bird to join DLA Piper in a deal that was finalized late Tuesday, Daschle and DLA Piper officials confirmed. Daschle will join the firm as a senior policy adviser, and will become a member of DLA Piper's governing global board. His official start day is Dec. 1. The former majority leader was President Obama's first pick for secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services before he withdraw in February after a flurry of stories over tax issues.
