Rising Texas firm McKool Smith announced that it has hired Andrews Kurth bankruptcy chair Hugh Ray and three other partners to start a bankruptcy practice. Ray is leaving Andrews Kurth after 41 years because of TARP-created conflicts. Ray, who represents corporate clients in bankruptcy, found that banking consolidation under TARP was limiting the number of cases he could take on. The other hires include two other former Andrews Kurth partners, and Ray's son, Hugh Ray III, a partner with Weycer, Kaplan, Pulaski & Zuber.
