In recent weeks, discussions between some Dallas County commissioners and District Attorney Craig Watkins have gotten heated, but judging by a Sept. 3 memo dispatched by county budget officer Ryan Brown, the consequences of all the wrangling are limited so far in terms of real people and real jobs.

In his memo sent to Watkins and to the commissioners court, Brown wrote that the D.A.’s office fiscal year 2010 budget will total $32.2 million, $3.6 million less than the previous fiscal year. Watkins has told the commissioners that he will identify and cut four positions in his office, for a cost-savings of $352,000; the positions will be eliminated before Oct. 15, according to Brown’s memo. [See memo below.] Three assistant D.A. spots and one support staffer job will be eliminated, says Jamille Bradford, the spokeswoman for the D.A.’s office.
