The luxury midtown Manhattan apartment of disgraced attorney Marc S. Dreier was sold at auction for $8.2 million Tuesday afternoon. Dreier had purchased the apartment at 151 E. 58th Street in 2007 for approximately $10.43 million. He was sentenced last week to 20 years in prison for orchestrating a multiyear Ponzi scheme that caused losses of more than $400 million to investors. A total of 36 bidders registered for the auction at Southern District of New York Bankruptcy Court. The process took only five minutes. The winning bidder declined to identify himself, joking, “I have buyer’s remorse.” Dreier remains at the Metropolitan Correctional Center awaiting assignment to a federal prison.
