Joe D. Whitley, former head of Atlanta’s Altston & Bird’s global security and enforcement practice group and the first general counsel of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has joined Miami’s Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in the firm’s white-collar criminal defense and government affairs practice groups.
Whitley, who will practice in the firm’s Atlanta and Washington offices, will focus on white-collar defense, including internal investigations, fraud, compliance and corporate governance matters. He will also continue to focus on homeland security, customs and immigration enforcement issues. Besides formerly heading Alston & Bird’s global security and enforcement practice group, he also was the former chair of that firm’s investigations and compliance practice group.
