The Chinese government has granted a license to Weil, Gotshal & Manges for the firm to open a Beijing office, the firm’s 20th location. Beijing is the third Asian outpost for Weil — it also operates in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Foreign firms are prohibited from practicing local law in China, but the impetus behind Weil’s Beijing venture is to focus on cross-border M&A and private equity deals while bolstering the firm’s transactional capacity in the region.
