A new breed of class actions is cropping up in California in which employees are suing employers over work-related expenses such as mileage and phone bills. Labor and employment attorneys note that California is the only state with a law that specifically requires companies to reimburse employees for costs they incur on the job. While the law has been on the books for many years, they said, employees have only recently started to use it against employers, which is largely the result of workers becoming more savvy about their rights.
