Amid a slew of recent announcements from a rising number of top law schools, the University of Michigan Law School is the latest to join the growing group to offer tuition-free need-based scholarships to J.D. students.

While the Michigan Law donation comes as a result of a $20 million donation from John K. Hoyns, who committed the gift in September as the John K. Hoyns Scholarship Fund to establish the Hoyns Scholars program, a spokesperson for the law school confirmed on Monday that the recipients—J.D. students who are “lowest on the economic ladder”—being awarded tuition-free scholarships.
