Bonnie Chan, a former Hong Kong partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell, has become the first woman chief executive of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). Her role will take effect in May 2024.

Chan, 54, left Davis Polk to return to the HKEX in 2019 as the head of the listings department. Earlier this year, she was promoted to become the bourse operator’s co-chief operating officer to oversee its Chief China Economist’s Office, corporate communications, group strategy, human resources, mainland development and LME Clear, which provides clearing and settlement services for users of the London Metal Exchange.
