The U.S. Supreme Court will not yet come to Missouri’s aid in its battle with the Department of Justice over a controversial state law challenging the validity of federal gun control measures.

The justices refused to grant a Missouri’s request to reinstate the law as the state defends against a lawsuit from the federal government over the statute’s constitutionality. Only Justice Clarence Thomas dissented from the court’s order on Friday afternoon, although Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote a short statement in which he noted the limited scope of the court’s decision.
