Dampp-Chaser Electronics Corp.’s motion for summary judgment was denied by a Maryland federal judge, after homeowner’s insurance investigators found that the company’s humidity control device installed under a piano might have been the source of a fire at a couple’s home.

In an Aug. 1 opinion, U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang of the District of Maryland denied Dampp-Chaser’s motion to summary judgment, concluding a genuine issue of material fact still existed regarding whether its product was defective and caused the house fire.
