A federal lawsuit, filed by on behalf of two transgender children and their families, contests the constitutionality of Idaho House Bill 71, which criminalizes gender-affirming health care for transgender youth.

Under the bill signed into law by Governor Brad Little earlier this year, a doctor who provides care “for the purpose of attempting to alter the appearance of or affirm the child’s perception of the child’s sex if that perception is inconsistent with the child’s biological sex,” faces 10 years in prison, according to the complaint.
