In a matter of first impression, the Washington Court of Appeals affirmed a trial court’s denial of a man’s request that jurors wear clear face shields instead of nontransparent face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, determining he hadn’t been denied his right to select an impartial jury.

Chief Judge Lori K. Smith, on behalf of Division One of the state appellate court, denied Justin Dominic Bell’s appeal of a trial court’s denial of his request for jurors to wear clear face shields, as the jurors wearing face masks hadn’t denied him of his right to select an impartial jury.
