A special U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit committee investigating Judge Pauline Newman’s competency released a second order Tuesday, which describes staffers’ allegations about the 95-year-old’s “uncharacteristic paranoia” and “bizarre” behavior and presses her to agree to a neurological examination.
Federal Circuit employees reported that Newman can’t remember how to perform simple tasks such as logging onto her computer, and has repeatedly insisted her devices are hacked after forgetting where she stored files or emails, the 26-page order states. The staffers also described discord in Newman’s chambers, according to the document, which followed a March order that raised concerns about the judge’s cognitive ability.
