After being elected to the bench of the 24th Judicial District Court for the Parish of Jefferson, Louisiana, in May 2013, Judge Scott U. Schlegel quickly got to work leveraging technology to remake the judicial system.

Starting first with the criminal system, Judge Schlegel used Zoom and Slack to streamline criminal proceedings, connecting together probation officers, case managers or public defenders online several years before the pandemic made it the norm.
