Federal appeals court Judge Toby Heytens kicked off his nomination hearing last July by talking about his clerkship with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and how he learned that judges must “treat every litigant with respect.”

Heytens is one of President Joe Biden’s two judicial picks who clerked for Ginsburg, the other being Julia Kobick, the deputy state solicitor in Massachusetts who is tapped for a federal trial court seat.
