A federal judge granted final approval to a $92 million privacy settlement with TikTok, but acknowledging tensions among the lawyers in the case, designated how much each plaintiffs firm should get in attorney fees.
The settlement resolved claims that TikTok violated the Illinois Biometric Privacy Act and other consumer laws by not informing users, who include minors, that it was collecting their biometric data. As part of the settlement approval, U.S. District Judge John Lee granted $29.3 million in attorney fees, slightly less than the plaintiffs’ request for $30.6 million, to 31 law firms.
