The chief judge of the Western District of Texas has just blown up the patent litigation industry in Waco.

Chief Judge Orlando Garcia issued a brief order Monday directing that, effective immediately, all patent infringement cases assigned in Waco—where Judge Alan Albright is the only district judge—be distributed among 11 of the district’s other 12 judges. Garcia said he was making the order “upon consideration of the volume of new patent cases assigned to the Waco Division, and in an effort to equitably distribute those cases.”
