Mayer LLP has acquired Houston trial boutique Lorance Thompson, adding 22 lawyers to the firm’s head count in Houston as midsize firms continue to grow through mergers to meet competitive pressure from larger firms.

The combination, which has been in the works for a year and a half, was final on Wednesday, creating a 95-lawyer firm. With the 22 Lorance Thompson lawyers, Mayer LLP’s Houston office grew to 35 lawyers.
