A federal appeals court on May 18 unanimously revived a former Massachusetts bus driver’s First Amendment claims after it vacated and remanded a district court’s summary judgment.

According to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit opinion, former Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) bus driver Christopher Bruce was terminated following public comments to a TV network about proposed budget cuts to the WRTA in February 2018. Bruce served as president of the bus drivers’ union, known as Amalgamated Transit Union Local 22.
