‘GRAVE HARM’ - The families of two transgender teens filed a lawsuit Monday in Alabama Middle District Court challenging a state law that bans transgender minors from receiving hormone treatment and other medical care for gender dysphoria. The suit contends that the law, which criminalizes certain treatments even when the minor, the patient’s parents and medical providers agree that it is in the patient’s best interest, is overly broad and discriminatory. “The felony health care ban will impose grave harm on transgender youth, their parents, and their medical providers,” the complaint alleges. The suit is backed by Cooley, Lambda Legal, the Transgender Law Center, the ACLU and other public interest organizations. The case is 2:22-cv-00167, Walker et al v. Marshall et al.
