While slightly reduced, a federal district court judge sided with PETA last week in its request for more than $1 million worth of attorney fees in a lengthy animal welfare suit against the Tri-State Zoological Park of Western Maryland.
PETA, formally known as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Inc.—an animal rights organization based in Norfolk, Virginia—sued Tri-State Zoological Park, a nonprofit zoo in Cumberland, Maryland, for allegations that owner, Robert L. Candy, subjected harm to its lions, tigers and lemurs, according to the U.S. District Court Judge Paula Xinis for the District of Maryland in an opinion filed Wednesday.
