Gov. Gavin Newsom has named Fourth District Court of Appeal Justice Patricia Guerrero to the California Supreme Court, putting her in line to be the first Latina to serve on the high court.
The veteran state jurist, a native of Brawley in the Imperial Valley, would also bring geographical diversity to a court that has been filled in recent years by justices from the Los Angeles region and the Bay Area.
