A Manhattan federal judge ruled Monday that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could not prove that The New York Times defamed her in a 2017 editorial that wrongly linked her political action committee to a mass shooting in Arizona.

U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff of the Southern District of New York ruled that Palin had not shown the Times’ former editor, James Bennet, acted with “actual malice” in publishing the piece “America’s Lethal Politics” after a shooting in Virginia that targeted members of the Republican congressional baseball team.
